Counterpedia for agents

Machine access should preserve the same boundaries readers can inspect.

Counterpedia exposes narrow, governed read paths instead of giving an agent a generic authority-bearing interface. Reads cross the DAGR boundary, results preserve the underlying record posture, and separate Counterpaths queries can ask how governed graph objects are connected without turning graph proximity into evidence.

Governed record reads

Read the record without gaining write authority

The Agent slice exposes record, explanation, sources, history, and declared verification posture. A write-classed mutation tool exists only so the governance layer can visibly refuse it before its body runs.

  • Five narrow public read operations
  • Admission/outcome receipts at the DAGR boundary
  • Independent receipt recomputation through arcs-verify
  • No authoring, signing, admission, or public-record mutation authority

Counterpaths

Ask connection questions under explicit policy

The governed CONNECT path calls Counterpaths over a pinned Countergraph projection. The result can be found, absent within bounds, endpoint-not-found, or truncated — and rejected structural routes remain inspectable.

  • Structural route is distinct from supported_by
  • Eligibility is applied before ranking
  • Snapshot, query, and result digests bind reproducibility
  • Operational failure never becomes epistemic absence

What the machine boundary does not do

Receipt

≠ path evidence

Citation

≠ claim support

Research task

≠ research execution

HTTP success

≠ truth

Flagship machine path

Same graph. Different question. Different answer.

The current flagship uses the governed NYT/OpenAI litigation graph. Under a structural policy, the record root reaches the judicial-opinion source through projects_as. Under asupported_by-only policy, the same route is rejected and the result is NO_DEFENSIBLE_PATH.
